Biography

A Detroit native, Kari L. Brown received her B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Technological University, where she is currently pursuing a PhD in Mechanical Engineering-Engineering Mechanics and Master's in Business Administration. Brown is the only African-American female PhD student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering-Engineering Mechanics at Michigan Tech. Brown is a woman with a mission, a message, and a mantra. Her mission is advocacy, her message is the"3S Mentality", and her mantra is, “it's all about caring for others.” The three add up to an ethic that both challenges and fulfills her.:At age 26, Brown has traveled to Ghana, Sweden, Denmark, China, London, Ontario, Chile, and Argentina. Brown attributes her success to her faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. She is a proud member of the Lighthouse Church in Hancock, MI, where she serves as Youth Leader.
